Student Scholarships

The Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility offers student scholarships ranging from $500–$2,000 to participate in our academic courses on the Twin Cities campus and abroad.

CGHSR courses are open to University of Minnesota students, as well as UMN faculty, staff, alumni, and non-UMN community learners. Interested students can apply for a scholarship at the time of submitting their application for the respective CGHSR course.

Students who apply to participate in CGHSR courses may apply for a student scholarship to support their ability to participate in the course.

All CGHSR course applications include a section to apply for student scholarships. Course applications are due 2 months before the start of the respective course. Scholarships ranging from $500–$2,000 will be available.

Scholarships are open to any student applying for one of the Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility’s courses: 

  • Ecuador: Social, Environmental, and Cultural Determinants of Health
  • India: Global Health, Globalization & Leadership Course
  • Global Health in Local Contexts

CGHSR courses are open to University of Minnesota students, as well as UMN faculty, staff, alumni, and non-UMN community learners. 

Scholarship priority will be given to UMN students. However, faculty, staff, alumni, and community learners may also be eligible for scholarships depending on the number of applicants and available funds for a given course.

Scholarship applications will be submitted along with the course application. Applications are due roughly two months before the start of the respective course. 

  • Ecuador: Social, Environmental, and Cultural Determinants of Health – Application due March 1
  • India: Global Health, Globalization & Leadership Course – Application due October 1
  • Global Health in Local Contexts – Application due August 1

Scholarships ranging from $500–$2,000 will be available per student. The exact award amount will depend on the number of scholarship applicants for a given course.

How to Apply for a Student Scholarship

Each CGHSR course application includes a section that allows students to indicate whether they'd like to apply for a scholarship. This section includes the following prompt, which students will need to complete to apply for the scholarship:

“Statement of Need - In 150 words or less, provide a statement of financial need and explain how receiving this scholarship would address that need. If you are receiving other financial support for your participation, please indicate the source and the amount expected.”

After completing the course application, those who applied for a student scholarship will have their funding requests considered during the application review process. Visit the relevant course webpage to find course applications:
