Our Services

We provide services to support interdisciplinary global health project planning and implementation at the University of Minnesota. 

Our Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility team members have expertise in international project management and welcome the opportunity to support the planning and implementation of University of Minnesota global health research studies, capacity-building projects, and educational or training initiatives. Services are available to all units at the University of Minnesota, but projects must have a global health focus.

 

 

 

PROJECT PLANNING & IMPLEMENTATION SPOTLIGHT

Training health providers abroad helps to ensure that US-bound refugees receive proper health screening, arrive safely and have a more successful community integration.

As part of our project management services, we partner with the United Nations Migration Agency (IOM) to build the Agency’s capacity to perform health screening and health assessments for US-bound refugees. Around the world, IOM physicians, nurses, laboratorians and other healthcare professionals are relied upon to screen and assess US-bound refugees. This project ensures that these health care workers receive the training necessary to understand the unique needs of displaced patients.

Global Health Project Planning and Implementation Services

Project Planning Support

CGHSR staff will work with faculty and international collaborators to ensure a new global health project starts strong. CGHSR can support grant planning in the following ways:

  • Initial project consultation with project leadership followed by a draft plan for implementation.
  • Assistance with identifying appropriate international sub-contracting or subaward sites to hire foreign nationals, procure services on-site, and manage project components with collaborating institutions. 
  • Work with international sites to ensure all regulatory requirements are met prior to grant submission.
  • Work with international sites to build the subaward budgets and additional required documentation.
  • Translation and interpretation support with international collaborators is available for some languages. Please inquire if you have specific translation and interpreting needs.

 

Project Management

Project managers work directly with PIs to implement projects according to the defined milestones and act as a liaison between UMN and international sites on logistical and financial components of the study. CGHSR’s post-award project management work includes but is not limited to:

  • Support IRB and related regulatory processes for domestic and international institutions;
  • Issue sub-awards or subcontracts to international sites;
  • Manage service contracts and/or rental agreements to international collaborators;
  • Initiate and complete required affiliation agreements between institutions, 
  • Coordinate travel arrangements (including visas, airfare, ground transportation, and lodging) that meet UMN travel policy requirements for UMN staff traveling internationally and partner collaborators visiting UMN;
  • Track and monitor spending on domestic and international components including review of financial reports and supporting documentation to ensure financial and regulatory requirements are met;
  • Monitor progress toward project goals, collecting data to evaluate project activities (including contribution to developing evaluation tools);
  • Coordinate additional project activities (develop online learning resources, create and maintain websites).

 

Research Implementation Support

The CGHSR research team provides consultation and support for international research project implementation. Support is available in the form of 90-minute consultations, and by reviewing the resources in our Research Toolkit
