Request for Proposals: Seed to R01 Accelerator Grants

Request for Proposals: Seed to R01 Accelerator Grants

The Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility has launched a new funding mechanism to help researchers elevate their projects into compelling, high-impact proposals with strong potential for securing external funding.

Seed to R01 Accelerator Grants are designed for previous CGHSR Global Health Seed Grant awardees and other promising global health researchers to advance their studies to position them for success in securing an R01 Award through the National Institutes of Health or equivalent research funding.

Research grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded to projects that demonstrate significant potential to develop into robust, externally funded proposals. Awardees will receive targeted support to advance their research projects and prepare for external funding opportunities. Key benefits include:

  • Flexible funding to further project goals
  • Expert review and feedback on NIH R01 or equivalent grant applications
  • Project management support from CGHSR staff (up to 10% effort annually)
  • Resources for global health best practices, including training in budgeting, international collaboration logistics, and more
  • Connections to research development programs and specialized training opportunities

Letters of intent are due Feb. 10, 2025.

Eligibility

Full-time (75% FTE or greater) University of Minnesota faculty with a minimum of one year in the role are eligible to apply. Students, PhD candidates, medical residents, fellows, and post-docs are not eligible to apply as a PI for this funding.

Faculty must have successfully completed a past CGHSR Seed Grant cycle, have an active CGHSR Seed Grant or have substantial experience in externally-funded global health research (including mentored research).

Selection Criteria and Review Process

Successful proposals will:

  • Have strong specific aims, research methods, and potential for external funding
  • Demonstrate strong collaboration and equitable partnership with international investigators

Priority will be given to applicants pursuing an NIH R01 grant; however, applicants pursuing equivalent funding (defined as 7-8 figure, multi-year research grants) will also be considered.
