CGHSR Director of Global Women’s Health Rahel Nardos Discusses Maternal Health Disparities During Minority Health Month

Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility Director of Global Women’s Health Rahel Nardos, MD, MCR, discussed disparities in maternal health during a recent interview on Kare 11 as part of the network’s coverage of Minority Health Month, which takes place in April.

Nardos said that a woman dies from childbirth-related causes every couple of minutes globally. In Minnesota, she said, Black and Indigenous women are more likely to die from childbirth than white women.

Nardos said a lack of resources among minority communities contribute to these disparities. She added that the health care community needs to ensure it’s providing culturally sensitive care to create better outcomes.
