2018 Guangxi CDC Visiting Scholars

The University of Minnesota Academic Health Center (AHC) and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Center for Disease Prevention and Control (Guangxi CDC) have been advancing research collaborations since 2015.

In the summer of 2018, welcomed two visiting scholars:

  • Yang Tang works at Guangxi CDC's Physical and Chemical Analysis Laboratory and holds a PhD in analytical chemistry from Wuhan University, Wuhan, China. As a part of the 2016 Global Health Seed Grant project on secondhand smoke prevention, he will be a visiting scholar at the Masonic Cancer Center, working with Irina Stepanov on the relationship between tobacco exposure and biomarkers assays.
  • Yihong Xie, Deputy Director of the Division of Food Safety Monitoring and Risk Assessment at Guangxi CDC, holds a PhD in epidemiology from Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai, Thailand. She will be a visiting scholar at the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS), working with Andres Perez, who received the inaugural Sping Lin and Ying-Ngoh T. Lin Visiting Scholars fellowship from China Center. Dr. Xie will be attending two short courses at the Summer Public Health Institute before working on research projects at CAHFS.
