OBGYN Urogyn Partnerships

A woman receives a diploma as part of CGHSR's OBGYN fellowship.

Every mother deserves a safe childbirth experience. However, disparities in care have forced too many women to suffer from preventable maternal injuries like obstetric fistula.

CGHSR has collaborated with Mekelle University and Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia to create an OBGYN fellowship program in Ethiopia to educate future physicians and ensure they have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide optimal care to expectant mothers.

OBGYN Fellowship Program

The three-year fellowship program focuses on building capacity by providing clinical and research training for OBGYNs to help ensure women receive safe, respectful, and effective care.

To date, it has graduated seven OBGYN fellows who have have collectively provided care for more than 5,000 women in Ethiopia since the fellowship started in 2015.

“This fellowship program is more than just a training program. It has a much bigger meaning for the women of Ethiopia and the healthcare professionals who are better empowered to care for them. It shows what’s possible when good-hearted people and organizations come together to address the needs of a community.”
