Two Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility collaborators have received Community-Engaged Scholar Awards from the University of Minnesota.

Kumi Smith, PhD, received the Research and Creative Activities Award and Kelly Searle, PhD, received the Early Career Award. Both are professors in the School of Public Health’s Division of Epidemiology and Community Health.

The university’s Office of Public Engagement gives out the awards, which “recognize the breadth and depth of community-engaged research, teaching, and service across the University system.”

Smith and Searle have been close collaborators with CGHSR. Smith is currently working on a National Institutes of Health R01 project that explores stigma faced by the LGBTQ community in clinical settings. Searle has received funding from CGHSR to study Malaria in Mozambique

“Drs. Smith and Searle are more than deserving of this recognition and it has been a pleasure to work with both of them,” said CGHSR Executive Director Shailey Prasad, MD, MPH. “Both are incredible researchers and collaborators, and our Center is thrilled to support their work.”
