Take Action for Global Health
In Washington, DC, the new administration recently put forward a budget request with significant cuts to key federal research agencies. While the request is only an initial step in setting funding for federal agencies, the proposal, if adopted, would have severe negative repercussions for the research mission of the University. Global health is especially vulnerable in this climate of animosity toward global engagement, and has been targeted with explicit cuts, including the proposed elimination of NIH's Fogarty International Center. We encourage you to take action in whatever capacity makes sense for you:
- Learn more about potential impacts to global health in this archived seminar from CSIS: The Administration's Budget, Congress, and Global Health.
- To show your support for the research the University performs, contact your members of Congress via UMN Advocates.
- CGHSR is collecting information on how the proposed budget impacts the work of UMN faculty in the area of global health, as well as how Minnesotans may be impacted. Share your thoughts with us.
- Gather with Minnesotans at the March for Science – Minnesota on April 22 to show support of higher education and the discovery, access, and understanding of scientific information. The coalition is working to protect and defend science funding, regulatory agencies, and evidence based policy-making.
