Request for Proposals: Global Health Seed Grants

Flier for CGHSR's Global Health Seed Grant request for proposals

The Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility invites proposals for Global Health Seed Grants which provide up to $25,000 to catalyze international research grounded in equity and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Global Health Seed Grants are available to University of Minnesota faculty members. Letters of intent are due April 17, 2026; full proposals are due May 8, 2026.

These awards are intended to seed new global health research initiatives by UMN faculty that demonstrate strong potential to attract future external funding. The funding mechanism is designed to encourage interdisciplinary research, strengthen partnerships with global institutions and create opportunities for student engagement in faculty-led research projects.

Preference will be given to proposals that include:

  • Interdisciplinary teams – PI and co-investigators with diverse expertise across multiple health science disciplines.
  • Locally relevant research – Research with strong potential for impact on health issues of significance in the partner country.
  • Long-term prospects – Pilot or preliminary studies designed to generate data for larger, long-term research initiatives.
  • Student involvement – Engagement of UMN and/or partner-country student(s) in research activities (student travel allowable, but not required).

Applications must focus on health research studies and incorporate CGHSR’s values of social responsibility

Key Dates:

  • April 17, 2026: Letters of intent due
  • May 8, 2026: Full proposals due
