Dr. Ângelo Zambam de Mattos is a gastroentologist and a professor of medicine at the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre in Brazil. As part of our COVID-19 Global Perspectives Series, we reached out to Dr. Zambam de Mattos to hear how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting Brazil.

Dr. Zambam de Mattos is a research collaborator with Dr. Jose Debes at the University of Minnesota's the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine. Together with other colleagues in the South American Liver Cancer Research Network they pursue research initiatives in viral hepatitis and HIV as well as the transition of viral hepatitis to liver cancer.

The University of Minnesota is pleased to have recently signed an agreement for cooperation and exchange with his institution, the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre in Brazil.
