Global Health Ethics in Practice: Ethical Considerations from Experiences in the Field
Global health work provides the opportunity for enhanced collaboration and mutual understanding. But it also presents ethical complexities related to cultural and societal differences.
How should differing ideas on gender roles be approached? How can long-held conceptions of spirituality in medicine be reconciled with clinical approaches? How can effective communication take place given language barriers and differences in professional etiquette?
This session will feature three University of Minnesota students who will speak about their experiences studying health care abroad – what they learned, what ethical considerations they faced and what they recommend to other students planning to work with global communities.
This presentation is meant for anyone interested in embedding themselves in global communities. The goal is to create a forum for discussion, speaking to the highs, the lows and the unexpected that come with international engagements.
