The Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility (CGHSR) requests proposals for new international health research projects in locations where the AHC maintains hubs of innovation or is actively exploring opportunities to advance new research and educational opportunities: East Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America/Caribbean.

CGHSR is seeking abstracts for 2018 Global Health Day Poster and Oral Presentations. The purpose of these presentations is to celebrate the work of our University of Minnesota global health community and to cultivate an interdisciplinary exchange around global health topics. Both oral and poster presentations allow students to build valuable professional and communication skills. Poster & Oral Presentations are open to all University of Minnesota students, residents, fellows, and alumni. Presentations can be made individually or in groups.

Applications are now open for the 2018-19 cohort of URTC student researchers! The Uganda Research Training Collaborative (RTC) matches students in the University of Minnesota’s Academic Health Center and participating institutions in Uganda to gain hands-on experience in global health research. Under the mentorship of UMN and Ugandan faculty, teams propose small-scale research projects to be carried out in about one year. Applications are due March 2, 2018.

Interdisciplinary teams presented their solutions to this year's case, Growing Pains: Palliative Care in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea on January 27, following a week of intense work. Congratulations to Team 6 for their winning proposal. We wish them luck as they begin to prepare for the Emory International Global Health Case Competition.

CGHSR welcomes Erin Mann into the new full-time position of CGHSR Global Collaborations Coordinator. Erin joins us with an MPH in International Health and Epidemiology from Boston University and University of Minnesota experience in the Food Protection and Defense Institute (FPDI) and the SPH Research Data Assistance Center. While at FPDI, Erin managed projects related to public health emergency preparedness and response, medical supply chains, and bio-surveillance.
