• Anne Fadiman's The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down depicts the experience of a Hmong family whose daughter suffers from epilepsy and the American doctors who treat her. It is used in courses at universities across the country both as literary journalism and as a casebook for cross-cultural sensitivity in general. The book is also widely read by medical practitioners who wish to offer more effective care to patients from other cultures.
