Global Public Health Institute: Reykjavik, Iceland

March 30-April 5, 2008

The University of Minnesota and University of Iceland brought together interdisciplinary teams of faculty to present the Global Health Institute. Held in April at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik, the institute drew several dozen students from both universities.

The weeklong offering of courses and presentations began at the home of Iceland’s president, Ólafur Grímsson, who delivered an address on climate change. Institute classes covered a range of topics such as global health challenges, geothermal energy, and informatics. Field trips included a visit to a geothermal power plant, Iceland’s famed geysers, and the steamy waters of the Blue Lagoon.

The global institute is a collaboration of the School of Public Health, the School of Nursing, and College of Veterinary Medicine and the SPH Global Outreach team.
